Secrétaire - Burr walnut

Secretaire in the Charles X style, dating from the first half of the nineteenth century.

Veneered in a splendid bookmatched walnut burl (oil-spot burl veneer), a refined technique that creates symmetric motifs on the fall-front and the drawers.
Presenta three large drawers in the lower frieze, a central drop-front (fall-front) that serves as a writing surface, and an upper drawer in the frieze beneath the tulip-cap or beaded crown.
Inside there is a central shaped niche flanked by small drawers and a hidden/secret compartment, typical of period manufacture for the storage of documents and valuables.
The back panel with large hand-planed boards and the bottom of the drawers confirm nineteenth-century authenticity.
The secret-drawer mechanisms are perfectly functional.
