Rare Antique North Indian Brass Hookah (Water Pipe) Base – Mughal Style, 19th Century
Description:
Offered a stunning, museum-quality antique brass water pipe base (huqqa/hookah base) in the classic bell shape. This authentic piece of Islamic and Asian metalwork is handmade in North India (Lahore region / Mughal Empire) and dates from the 18th century or early 19th century.
The base is fabulously decorated with very fine, hand-engraved craftsmanship. The body features geometric, star-shaped cutouts and patterns, while the underside is richly adorned with traditional floral motifs and tendrils. The bottom shows the authentic, rough hand-hammered character of old casting.
Over the years the object has developed a brilliant deep, dark patina, especially around the neck and collar opening.
This is a solid, heavy cast object (made via the lost-wax method) and absolutely not a thin, modern tourist reproduction. A magnificent collectible for lovers of Eastern antiques and antique metalwork.
