The Technifrance Transistor 8 is an emblematic vintage portable radio produced by the French brand Technifrance at the turn of the 1960s. This transistor receiver mainly comes in several chassis variants, notably the famous TR84 (or 84 C) and 83 versions.
It is a magnificent example of the Technifrance Transistor 83 (exact model TR-83), marketed at the very beginning of the 1960s.
Technical sheet & Design:
The Chassis: It uses a printed circuit mounted on an inverted metal frame. Technifrance cleverly reused its wooden cabinet lines (from lamp models of the previous decade) to house 100% modern technology for the era.
The Transistors: It is a heterodyne arrangement with 8 germanium transistors (often THomson-Houston or Philips brands, types 2N247, 2N409, AC126, etc.).
Tuning ranges: It receives Medium Wave (GO), Short Wave (OC), and Long Wave (GO? Wait) — in French: Grandes Ondes (GO), Petites Ondes (PO) and short waves (OC). The selection is made via knurled side buttons on the case.
