Description
Splendid decorative centerpiece with a large, top-faceted crystal cup, embedded in an elaborate metal mount in a historicist style, inspired by the European ornamental repertoire of the Louis XV/Napoleon III period.
The cup features a deep geometric faceting, characterized by large stars, rosettes, fans, radial motifs and numerous facets that produce spectacular plays of light.
Inside the cup there is still an original seal, although worn, reading “CRISTALLO SUPERIORE,” a designation used for high-lead-content crystal oxide glass.
The mount is particularly dramatic and richly worked: it features two large side handles with botanical motifs, four arched supports decorated with acanthus leaves, a perimetral ornamental band, a squared-shaped ribbed base and four scroll feet.
Altogether, it deliberately evokes the great European centerpieces of nineteenth-century taste.
Conditions
Excellent condition.
The crystal cup is intact, with no chips or cracks.
The mount shows a nice patina consistent with the age and type of object.
