Description from the seller
Pair of Louis XV-style chairs – Sculpted wood & floral tapestry – France – Second half of the 20th century
Elegant pair of decorative Louis XV / Rocaille-style chairs, made of carved wood, stained in a warm honey / mahogany brown and featuring very pretty ornamental work.
The backs are particularly decorative, with a central carved shell surrounded by vegetal and floral motifs, a hallmark of the decorative vocabulary inspired by Louis XV style. The front legs are splayed and carved, reinforcing this classic aesthetic.
The backs and seats are upholstered with a floral and vegetal tapestry, in a soft, elegant palette of beige, cream, old rose, pale green and gray/blue, with large symmetrical floral motifs. The upholstery is outlined by a row of patinated metal upholstery tacks.
The structure appears to be made of hardwood, presumably stained and varnished beech, a timber traditionally used for this type of seating. However, precise identification of the species cannot be guaranteed without direct inspection.
Dimensions of each chair:
Height: 98 cm
Width: 46 cm
Depth: 42 cm
Style: Louis XV / Rocaille, stylistic
Estimated era: second half of the 20th century
Approximate dating: about 1960–1980
Materials: carved and varnished wood, tapestry fabric, upholstery and decorative tacks
Colors: honey/mahogany brown, beige, cream, old rose, pale green and blue-gray
Quantity: 2 chairs
The pair presents a beautiful harmony and a particularly warm décor.
These chairs would suit either a classical, romantic, château-inspired interior, a country house, or eclectic décor, and can also be used as decorative occasional seating.
