A special and scarce publication by the iconic Belgian artist Panamarenko, published in 1986. This work is entirely devoted to Panamarenko's homage to the legendary "Schneider von Ulm" (Albrecht Berblinger) and Panamarenko's monumental flying contraption Umbilly V for the University of Ulm (hanging in the foyer of the library there).
Panamarenko was obsessed with the mechanics of flying, bird flight, and utopian, non-working flying machines throughout his life. The tragicomic story of the Schneider von Ulm—the 19th-century German tailor and aviation pioneer who, in 1811, plunged into the Danube with homemade wings in a blaze of glory—is the ultimate 'Panamarenko story.' It embodies the fine line between genius, dreams, and the harsh reality of gravity.

What makes this copy absolutely unique is the original autograph of Panamarenko on the title page.
