The Canon A-1 (1978) was the first 35mm SLR to offer programmed automatic exposure alongside shutter-priority, aperture-priority and manual modes, with a bright red LED readout in the finder. A landmark of the electronic SLR era, it remains a capable and popular camera. It is offered here with the earlier Canon FL 50mm f/1.4, which fits the FD mount and is used with stop-down metering on this body.

The top plate has a dent and the lens has extensive haze and cleaning marks. The camera works. Please review the photos and consider this before bidding.

Appearance
Scuffs and scratches from normal use, and a dent on the right shoulder of the top plate. Please check the photos for details.

Optical Condition
Finder: Cleaned internally.
Lens: FL 50mm f/1.4: many spots of haze inside and cleaning marks on the front element. See photos.

Functional
Power, light meter, shutter and film transport work. Measured: 1 s = 1 s, 1/60 = 1/64, 1/1000 = 1/1240.
The FL lens is used with stop-down metering on this body.
The light seals have been replaced and the viewfinder and lens cleaned internally.

Measured Performance
We check these cameras on a shutter tester rather than by ear, and we publish what we measured:
- 1 s — measured 1/1 s (on the mark)
- 1/60 — measured 1/64 s (approx. 0.1 stop fast)
- 1/1000 — measured 1/1240 s (approx. 0.3 stop fast)
Negative film has enough latitude to absorb deviations of this size, but the figures are here so you can judge for yourself.

Servicing
This camera was serviced by us before listing:
- Light seals (foam) replaced
- Viewfinder cleaned internally
- Lens cleaned internally

Known Issues
1. A dent on the right shoulder of the top plate.
2. The lens has many spots of haze inside and cleaning marks on the front element; expect reduced contrast and a soft, glowing image against the light.

Shipping
We ship via either FedEx or Japan Post (ePacket), whichever suits the destination and the parcel. With Japan Post your package is handed over to the local postal carrier in your country for final delivery.
