The Canon Canonex, introduced in 1963, is an unusual footnote in Canons history: it was the companys first and only leaf-shutter single-lens reflex camera. Unlike Canons interchangeable-lens SLRs, it carries a fixed Canon SE 48mm f/2.8 lens behind a Copal leaf shutter, paired with a battery-free selenium meter driving shutter-speed-priority automatic exposure. As Canons earliest fully automatic SLR, it represents an experimental bridge between the Canonet rangefinders and the later Canonflex/FX reflex line. Collectors value it for its rarity and one-of-a-kind status in the Canon catalogue, while film shooters appreciate the quiet leaf shutter and simple auto exposure of an all-mechanical, no-battery design.

Optical Condition
Finder: Cleaned internally.
Lens: Clear — no haze, fungus or scratches.

Functional
The shutter and automatic exposure work. 1/60 measured at about 1/51.
The exposure is accurate in dim light (-0.1 EV at EV12) but reads about 2 stops bright in bright light (+2.3 EV at EV15) — see Known Issues.
The light seals have been replaced and the viewfinder and lens cleaned internally.

Measured Performance
We check these cameras on a shutter tester rather than by ear, and we publish what we measured:
- 1/60 — measured 1/51 s (approx. 0.2 stop slow)
- Light meter accuracy — EV12: 0.1 UNDER / EV15: 2.3 OVER
Some of these deviations exceed what negative film can absorb — please read the Known Issues section and allow for them when shooting.

Servicing
This camera was serviced by us before listing:
- Light seals (foam) replaced
- Viewfinder cleaned internally
- Lens cleaned internally

Known Issues
1. In bright light the automatic exposure reads about 2 stops bright and will overexpose; in dim light it is accurate. Negative film will absorb much of this, but expect dense negatives in sunlight.

Shipping
We ship via either FedEx or Japan Post (ePacket), whichever suits the destination and the parcel. With Japan Post your package is handed over to the local postal carrier in your country for final delivery.
We only ship to registered addresses.

Customs and Taxes
Parcels are shipped DDU (Delivered Duty Unpaid): import VAT and any customs duties are collected by customs or the carrier on delivery, in accordance with the rules of the destination country.
Where import taxes have already been collected at checkout — for example under the EU IOSS scheme for orders up to EUR 150 — there is nothing further to pay on delivery.
