Two gilded bronze wall sconces with sculpted crystal floral shades, model Tulipas Florales, in the Louis XV style from France, dating to 1910–1920, with a bronze rococo body and tallied crystal petals that diffuse light, in good used condition and in working order, dimensions 23 cm wide by 21 cm high by 14 cm deep.
Description from the seller
They are two wall sconces that embody that reading of Louis XV reinterpreted in the early years of the twentieth century, when taste for curves, flower and worked metal remained in force but with a lighter, more domestic sensibility. The bronze body shows that Rococo sinuosity: volutes that unfold, stylized leaves that seem to move, small reliefs that catch the light and create a warm play of shadows on the wall. It is not rigid bronze; it has that soft modeling that betrays the hand of the artisan and the continuity of French decorative tradition in full transition toward modernity.
The floral crystal-cut shades of the era are the expressive heart of the piece. The glass, worked with a fine frost and cuts that imitate open petals, diffuses the light with an almost intimate softness. Each shade seems like a flower halted in mid- gesture of opening, with a wavy edge that softens the glare and lends that theatrical air so characteristic of the style. The carving, delicate and regular, adds texture and depth, turning the light into another decorative element.
The set — golden metal, Rococo curves, carved floral crystal — creates an elegant and warm presence, very representative of the Louis XV wall sconces of the early twentieth century, pieces meant to beautify as much as to illuminate.
Tracked shipping and careful packaging.
