Italian console carved and gilded – c. 1900

Magnificent 19th-century Italian console, dated approximately to 1870, made of carved wood with abundant ornamental decoration and gilded finishes. It is a piece of marked Rococo character, inspired by Louis XV, with a structure of great sculptural richness.

The console features a profusely carved front, headed by an elaborate central floral composition, accompanied by flower motifs, leaves, rocaille, and vegetative elements. The sides are characterized by their curved, sinuous shapes, with large S-shaped elements, acanthus leaves and volutes, extending down to the legs.

Notable is the quality and profusion of the carving, with different relief levels and gilded decoration that combines zones of greater intensity with others that appear more worn, giving it character and evidencing the passage of time. The lower part incorporates a central ornamental composition that continues the decorative language of the whole.

The upper surface features a light-toned finish, creating an interesting contrast with the carved and gilded structure.

A piece with great decorative presence, ideal for classical, palatial, or eclectic environments, and especially interesting as a display element.
