Special collection of four complete two-part cast molds for the manufacture of wax votive offerings.
Such votive gifts were donated to churches and pilgrimage sites as thanks for a granted favor or healing, or to support a prayer. Wax votives could depict body parts, animals, or human figures, depending on the donor's intention.
These four plaster molds are intended for full human figures. Each mold consists of two interlocking halves in which the figure is produced in negative relief. The openings and recesses relate to joining and filling the molds.
The molds come from a collection of antique wax votives and production materials. Signs of use, discolorations, and local residues attest to their original function.
Dimensions: the largest mold measures 12 x 9 x 6 cm, the smallest 9 x 7 x 6 cm.
