Thanks to the large maximum aperture of f/1.4, this lens is suitable for photography in low light and for portrait shots with a nice, creamy background blur. On a Nikon full-frame camera it provides the classic 50 mm field of view. On a Nikon DX camera this corresponds to about 75 mm.
