Pair of Savonarola chairs in solid wood, model Savonarola, dating to 1950–1960, in brown, with dimensions 53 cm deep, 83 cm high and 67 cm wide, in good condition with minor signs of age and stains.
Description from the seller
Pair of Savonarola chairs in curved wood, with a smooth closing motion. Called “icasse” due to their X-shaped construction, probably inspired by Romanesque design, used mainly in noble residences. The term Savonarola derives from the name of Girolamo Savonarola (1452-1498), during whose era the chair of this type would date, kept in his cell at the convent of San Marco in Florence, where he lived from 1482 until his death. They are equipped with pins that allow folding and storing in tight spaces, and a backrest that can be interlocked into place. The latter is finely carved, and the ends of the armrests feature lion heads. In the last photo you can see the small defects present.
