As “Stummel” is used in military history the short-barreled 7.5-cm Sturmkanone 37 L/24, with which the early variants of the Sturmgeschütz III (versions A to E) were armed. The nickname derived from the visually very short barrel that protruded from the turret/hull like a stump compared to the later long-barreled variants.

Sturmhaubitze 42 (short StuH 42)
The Sturmhaubitze 42 (short StuH 42), official Sonderkraftfahrzeug number: Sd.Kfz. 142/2) was a heavily armored assault howitzer of the German Wehrmacht, used from 1942 to 1945 in World War II. It was based on the chassis of the successful Sturmgeschütz III (StuG III), but instead of a turret gun it was equipped with a modified 10.5-cm light field howitzer. In total about 1,300 vehicles were produced by the Berlin manufacturer Alkett.
