Indische mand (slangenbezweerder) - Container - pitriet and brass

Beautiful antique woven-lidded basket with copper fittings.
The basket is decorated all around with fine brass elements.
I was told that this fancy basket was for snakes?
Dating: from the first half of the last century or older.
Origin: around the India region.

In very good and used condition, a unique and beautiful collectible piece!
