Description from the seller
Antique - German school wall chart - "Wald-Erdbeere, Fragaria vesca - Plate 11" (wild strawberry), Prof. Dr. Pilling
Germany, ca. 1916
This is an original German school wall chart (Schulwandkarte/Schultafel) from a series of botanical plates titled "Vertreter einheimischer Pflanzenfamilien" ("Representatives of Native Plant Families"), compiled by Prof. Dr. Pilling and published between 1915 and 1918 by Verlag Friedrich Vieweg & Sohn, Braunschweig. The lithographs were produced by the Lithographische Anstalt von Walter Müller, Gera (Reuss) — a renowned lithographic workshop specializing in botanical and anatomical school charts.
This specific plate is Plate 11 in the series and shows the Wald-Erdbeere (Fragaria vesca), the wild strawberry, with detailed botanical parts: the full plant with rhizome and runners (1), a cross-section of the flower (2), ovary with style (3), halved berry (4), longitudinal section through the flower (5) and through the fruit of the raspberry, Rubus Idaeus (6) — a didactic comparison between two related fruits in the rose family.
At the bottom it explicitly says "Nachdruck verboten" (reproduction forbidden) — a common copyright notice on this type of educational material.
In good used condition, with signs of wear appropriate to its age (discoloration, frayed edges, a small tear at the top right).
Dimensions:
approx. 72.5 cm H
approx. 56 cm W
Well packed and insured shipping.
