This sale offers a set of works from the studio of a Belgian painter, gathered over time through his discoveries, encounters and affinities. The artists have often maintained a privileged connection with the arts of the primitive or ethnographic, sensitive to the strength of forms, to the simplicity of volumes and to the expressiveness of materials; they were among the first to view these objects differently from mere curiosities. Their eye, naturally attentive to lines and balance, led them to collect these works and, at times, to draw inspiration from them. This collection thus bears witness to an intimate dialogue between artistic creation, the collector’s gaze and a fascination with forms from elsewhere.
