The Contax AX is a sophisticated 35mm autofocus SLR camera developed by Contax for photographers who wanted autofocus capability while continuing to use the extensive range of Contax/Yashica (C/Y) manual-focus lenses. Its distinctive internal-film-plane focusing system moves the film and pressure plate assembly to achieve autofocus, allowing compatibility with classic manual-focus lenses without requiring dedicated AF lenses.
