Westraven Utrecht – Hand-Painted Tile Panel “Dentist Scene”.
A distinctive hand-painted ceramic tile panel by Westraven Utrecht, depicting a humorous historical scene of a barber-surgeon extracting a tooth in front of a group of onlookers.
The panel consists of six hand-painted tiles (3 × 2), mounted in a wooden frame.
The reverse is marked “Westraven 1661 Utrecht Holland”. One tile is signed “HV/WR”, attributed to Hans Verwei / Westraven.
Westraven was originally established in Utrecht in 1661 and is particularly known for its decorative and wall tiles, often hand-painted in Delft Blue or polychrome styles.
The combination of the Westraven marking, hand-painted decoration and unusual subject makes this an appealing piece for collectors of Dutch ceramics and decorative tiles.
