Bronze and brass sculpture by C. Techmeyers from France, a modern Brutalist Hollywood Regency work signed on the wing and dated circa 1970, measuring 70 cm high, 45 cm wide and 100 cm deep with a weight of 80 g, titled reiger in het riet.
Description from the seller
It is a rare and monumental metal sculpture by the French designer Christian Techoueyres, made for Maison Jansen in the 1970s. Below are all the specific details of the object:
Designer: Christian Techoueyres
Manufacturer / Publisher: Attributed to Maison Jansen (Paris, France)
Title of the work: "Pélican et Roseaux" (Pelican and Reed Stalks)
Period: 1970s (circa 1970–1975)
Style: Brutalist Hollywood Regency
Material: Solid bronze (reed stalks and base) combined with hand-cut brass (bird and leaves)
Signature: The sculpture is hand-signed with the original ink-scratch signature "C. Techoueyres" on the wing (see attached close-up photo).
Dimensions: Height approx. 70 cm | Width approx. 45 cm | Depth approx. 100 cm
Weight: Extremely heavy (estimated between 20 and 35 kg for the loose metal part and 80 kg in total).
Current condition & patina: The sculpture has stood outside for an extended period and has consequently developed a beautiful, nature-formed exterior patina (coppery green oxidation on the bronze, deep olive-brown coloration on the brass). The metal and welds are structurally in good, solid condition except for one reed stalk, which sits somewhat loose on the base. A deliberate decision has been made not to chemically clean or polish the sculpture in order to protect the original 50-year-old patina layer.
Logistics: Due to its high weight and the vulnerability of the protruding parts, the object cannot be shipped by regular mail. It is located in the Rotterdam region and must be collected by the purchaser, or transported by a professional art courier.
