Description from the seller
Verreries Doyen – Set of 10 Art Deco wine glasses – Ouraline uranium glass – ca. 1930
Description
A particularly beautiful and complete set of 10 Art Deco wine glasses, manufactured by Verreries Doyen in Havré, Belgium, around the 1930s.
The design combines a clear, elegantly rounded bowl with a slim green stem and foot in ouraline/uranium glass. In particular, the stepped connection between the bowl and stem gives these glasses their distinctive Art Deco appearance.
Under 365 nm UV light, the green parts fluoresce very intensely lime-green, characteristic of uranium-containing glass. The accompanying UV photos show this effect particularly clearly.
The glasses are mouth-blown and hand-finished. Consequently, small differences in height, shape, and glass thickness are visible between pieces. Also small air bubbles, streaks, and irregularities in the glass occur. These are original manufacturing characteristics and emphasize the artisanal nature of this production.
Verreries Doyen belonged during the interwar period to the leading Belgian makers of decorative table and everyday glassware. The combination of clear glass with bright green ouraline is particularly typical for the colorful glass production of this Art Deco era.
The set consists of 10 matching glasses and, due to the quantity, the striking uranium fluorescence, and the elegant design, forms a very decorative whole.
Dimensions per glass:
Height: approx. 13 cm
Diameter: approx. 7 cm
Good vintage condition. The photos provide a detailed view of the finish and condition. The small air bubbles and inter-piece differences are inherent to the manual production process.
Carefully packed and shipped.
