Antiek Duitsland - Pillbox - .800 silver

This type of box was at the time made by Gebrüder Koberlin as a luxury snuff- or pill-box.

Rocaille decor: Around the flower there is an asymmetrical pattern of lush scrolls, C-scrolls and leaf shapes (rocaille), typical of the late 19th-century Neo-Rococo that was very popular in Germany at the time.

The master mark KUE belongs to the well-known German silverware manufacturer Gebrüder Koberlin (sometimes written Köberlin) from Schwäbisch Gmünd.

This company was very active in the region in the late 19th and early 20th centuries and was known for its high-quality, richly decorated silver snuff boxes, pill boxes and silver articles.

Horse with a unicorn bearing the number 12 (Above KUE): This is the older town hallmark of Schwäbisch Gmünd (a unicorn), combined with the number '12' (which stands for the old Loth designation for silver fineness before the metric system). The combination of both the old guild mark and the modern imperial marks indicates that the box was probably around the turn of the century (c. 1890–1910).
