Bing & Grøndahl porcelain group 'Sleeping Monkeys' model 1581, designed by Ingeborg Plockross-Irminger for Denmark, dating 1958–1962, showing three monkeys curled together in cream, brown and taupe with dimensions 11 cm high, 10 cm wide and 9.5 cm deep and weighing 1,486 g in excellent condition.
Description from the seller
A lovely little group of three monkeys curled up together, apparently quite content to use one another as pillows. Their overlapping bodies, loosely draped arms and closed eyes create a compact, wonderfully peaceful composition.
Soft shades of brown, taupe and cream settle naturally into the modelling, with slightly darker colour around the faces and limbs. It is a gentle, affectionate piece with plenty of personality, and the intertwined arrangement looks particularly appealing from above.
Ingeborg Plockross-Irminger was a Danish sculptor known for her expressive figures of animals and children. Her designs for Bing & Grøndahl combine simple, rounded modelling with an understated warmth that makes even small pieces feel full of character.
Bing & Grøndahl was founded in Copenhagen in 1853 and became particularly admired for its animal figures and softly shaded underglaze decoration. The factory’s three-tower mark was inspired by the coat of arms of Copenhagen.
