Diploma of appointment for the National Militia, an official engraved document issued during the Progresista Bienio (1854–1856) in Madrid, 42 × 31 cm, 4 pages, manuscript author, in Spanish, in Bien Conservada BC condition.
Description from the seller
Certificate title of appointment to the National Militia, with official engraving issued during the Progressive Biennium (1854-1856) in the reign of Queen Isabella II. Signed by the mayor of Madrid and the secretaries.
Every Spaniard is obliged to defend the homeland when called by the Law. It bears precious military motifs with weapons, banners, shields...
Historical context of 1854: The Vicalvarada
In July 1854 the revolution known as the Vicalvarada or Revolution of 1854 triumphed in Madrid, led by Generals O'Donnell and Espartero.
One of the first measures of the new Progressive government was to reestablish the National Militia (a body of armed citizens of liberal bent that moderate governments used to dissolve).
Battalions were organized by urban districts under the direct supervision of the Town Councils. For that reason, the document is issued with the Madrid coat of arms (the bear and the strawberry tree) and signed by the Constitutional Mayor of Madrid and the municipal secretaries.
Excellent piece, carefully selected.
Ideal for collectors, lovers of old paper and history and also for those who want to decorate a charming space.
Original from the period. Excellent piece with no reserve price. Great opportunity.
