Ancient Russian wooden icon depicting the "Dormition of the Mother of God" (Dormitio Virginis), dating to the 19th century. It is a classic travel or pocket format, painted with tempera on a single solid wooden panel.
The central scene shows the Virgin Mary on her deathbed surrounded by the Apostles, with Christ above receiving her soul in the form of a Child.
Condition: The icon is presented in its original, unrestored state. It shows visible and natural signs of time and wear, including some losses of the painting layer and its gilding, particularly along the decorated edges and at the bottom. The back is natural, live and solid wood.
