Two related French souvenir and jewelry boxes from Paris, circa 1900–1920, built of thick faceted glass panels in rich gilded metal frames with decorative feet and hinged lids, one depicting the Sacré‑Cœur and the other a Seine panorama with Notre‑Dame, in reasonable condition with heavy use and possible missing small parts.
Description from the seller
A pair of related French souvenir and jewelry boxes, probably made in Paris around 1900–1920. Both boxes are constructed from thick, facet-cut glass panels set in richly decorated, gold-colored metal mounts, presumably brass or a similar copper alloy. They stand on elegant ornamental feet and are fitted with hinged lids.
Beneath the glass lid of the smaller example is a colored depiction of the Sacré-Cœur in Montmartre, with the inscription “Paris – le Sacré-Cœur.” The larger box shows a panorama of the Seine and the Parisian quays with Notre-Dame; the markings “Paris” and “Notre-Dame” are still partially visible.
Such boxes were produced in the Belle Époque and the early twentieth century as decorative souvenirs for visitors to Paris. They were intended for small jewelry, mementos, or other personal valuables.
No maker’s mark was found. The exact manufacturer and production date are therefore not known.
