G.B. Paravia & C. historical anatomical atlas Il Corpo della Donna, supervised by Prof. Angelo Cesare Bruni, in good used condition with minor signs of age and spots, made on paper, 27 cm high by 20 cm wide by 1 cm deep, dating to 1930–1940.
Description from the seller
Very rare historical anatomical atlas - "The Body of Woman" with hinged, multi-layer plates - G.B. Paravia & C., 1930s/1940s
A remarkable and fascinating vintage volume titled "The Body of Woman" with Nomenclature, published by the prestigious house G.B. Paravia & C. (Turin, Milan, Florence, Rome, Naples, Palermo).
The text and scientific supervision are by Prof. Angelo Cesare Bruni, illustrious director of the Institute of Normal Anatomy at the Royal University of Turin.
An opus of exceptional historical-scientific value, originally conceived for secondary schools, anatomy institutes, doctors and surgeons of the era.
Multi-layer pop-up anatomical plates: the volume houses life-size illustrated plates with overlapping flaps and fold-out sections (lamellae cut from shaped cardboard and hand-painted/chromolithography) that allow you to "browse" the various layers of the human body: from skin to muscles, and to the circulatory, respiratory, digestive, and genital systems.
Rich, detailed nomenclature and a booklet with explanatory text curated by Prof. A. C. Bruni.
Hardcover.
Good overall condition considering the fragility and age of the paper material, perfectly intact and complete. It shows the normal wear of time on the cover and slight browning of the paper, but the interior hinge plates remain fully functional with incredible detail and visual clarity.
An unmissable collectible for lovers of medical mid-century modernism, scientific antiques, and cabinets of curiosities.
Tracked, professional, and carefully protected shipping.
