Magnificent decorative parade shield (domed shield) in brass richly worked in repoussé, inspired by the famous masterpieces of Renaissance Italian and French armory.
This highly decorative collectible piece features exceptional relief work and is distinguished by its numerous mythological and historical motifs:
• In the center: A large and expressive Medusa head roundel with serpentine hair, a classic guardian figure.
• At the top: A circular medallion depicting a battle scene (inspired by David vs. Goliath).
• At the bottom: An historiated scene beneath a military camp tent (evoking the story of Judith and Holofernes).
• On the sides: Two vertical cartouches housing allegorical figures of antique deities in armor (Minerva and Mars).
• The surround: Entirely adorned with a frieze of domes/pyxides, depictions of captive prisoners, cherubs, and weapon trophies.
