The icon of world design – the Aalto vase (also known as the Savoy vase), produced by the renowned Finnish brand Iittala.
This design was created in 1936 by one of the most important Nordic architects and designers, Alvar Aalto, together with his wife Aino.
The distinctive, wavy and organic shape of the vase was inspired by the Finnish landscape – the shoreline of the local lakes and the form of traditional, leather Finnish Eskimos’ pants.
The vase gained enormous fame after being shown at the World Exhibition in Paris in 1937.
The version visible in the photo is made of white opal glass (double-layer). Each original vase of this brand is traditionally hand-blown in a glassworks in Finland
