VT 10.5 - Senator for the day; Komet for the night. At the beginning of the early 1950s, Deutsche Bundesbahn developed two articulated trains for intercity traffic. The VT 10 501, built in 1954 by Linke-Hofmann-Busch as the day train "Senator" for Deutsche Bundesbahn and the already produced in 1953 by Wegmann VT 10 551 as the night train "Komet" for Deutsche Schlafwagen- und Speisewagengesellschaft. The daytime train VT 10 501 as Ft 41/42 "Senator" on the Frankfurt/Main–Hamburg connection, the night train as Ft 49/50 "Komet" between Hamburg and Zurich. The running characteristics of the night train were positively evaluated; regarding the daytime train, DB documents note: "All in all it seems that the goods wagon character cannot be removed from the vehicle." The "Senator" remained in passenger service until June 1956, was subsequently rebuilt several times and tested on test runs. In 1959 it was decided to withdraw from service and in 1962 dismantling was ordered.
