Mikasa - Drinking set (42) - Chalfonte - Crystal

Set of hand-cut, mouth-blown transparent crystal glasses consisting of:

12 water goblets, height 19.7 cm x diameter 7.8 cm

11 wine goblets, height 18 cm x diameter 7.4 cm

11 champagne goblets, height 15.5 cm x diameter 9.6 cm

8 flute goblets, height 21.7 cm x diameter 5.6 cm.

These are elegant crystal goblets characterized by a thin gold rim on the upper edge and a tall stem with vertical grooves finely worked with a central sculpted node. They were produced by Mikasa glassware, model Chalfonte. Condition: Discontinued. Period: 1987-1988. The upper gold rim shows light signs of wear or time-related discontinuity.

Brief history: Mikasa is recognized worldwide as a leader in tableware. George Aratani founded Mikasa, initially under the name of "American Commercial Inc.", in California in 1948. Mikasa's predecessor was a company called All Star Trading, founded in 1936. The link between All Star Trading and Mikasa was familial: the entrepreneurial legacy of the Aratani family. Setsuo Aratani, a Japanese-American, started All Star Trading as an import-export business specializing in trade with Japan. "Mikasa" in Japanese means "three umbrellas".
