Description from the seller
Crucified Christ – German School – 1600-1650
Origin: Germany
Period: First half of the 17th century
Dating: Ca. 1600-1650
Material: Carved and polychromed wood
Measurements: approx. 57 × 51 × 10 cm.
Old Crucified Christ from a German school, created during the first half of the seventeenth century.
Carving with marked expressiveness, depicting Christ dead, with the head deeply inclined, long hair and beard worked through pronounced volumes. The body presents a stylized anatomy, with an elongated torso and crossed legs.
The loincloth stands out, modeled with pronounced folds, retaining interesting traces of blue polychromy. The surface shows traces of preparation and ancient polychromy, with significant wear and an attractive patina in line with the age of the work.
The arms are made separately and are detachable. To ensure greater security during transport, the arms will be delivered detached/loose along with the sculpture.
Condition appropriate to its age, with losses of polychromy, wear, small gaps, and signs typical of the passage of time.
An interesting religious sculpture of the German school from the early Baroque, ca. 1600-1650.
