The SL-XP6 stands out for its beautiful design and solid build. It is made of metal rather than plastic and is only slightly larger than a 5" Compact Disc. It can also play 3" CDs without the need for an adaptor. The lid opens—only when the device is not in use—via a side button. After inserting the CD and closing the lid, it can be started with the play button, which also serves as the pause button. The front display shows the track number and elapsed time in minutes and seconds. You can fast-forward with audio or skip to the next track in either direction. There is also a repeat function button and a high-pass filter button next to the volume knob. The sound produced by the SL-XP6 is superb, thanks to its digital oversampling filter (4x). When connected to an amplifier in the living room or in a car, the device functions as a CD player, holding its own against many other devices.
