Daum Nancy art nouveau vase in acid-etched pâte de verre with a grisaille Bar‑sur‑Aube landscape, unsigned but handwritten number 6 in gold, dating to ca. 1900–1910, in a small 13.5 cm high, 5.5 cm diameter piece weighing 124 g.
Description from the seller
Very beautiful, small and delicate vase with a high neck in acid-etched pâte de verre with a frosted base.
The motif rendered in grisaille is a landscape, more precisely a small village "Bar-sur-Aube" painted finely in enamel on a frosted ground with relief. A so-called "wolf-tooth" border is acid-etched around the neck and highlighted with gold paint.
The vase is unsigned; it bears a manuscript number 6 underneath, painted in gold.
This vase was made by the famous and renowned Daum Frères art glass factory located in Nancy, Lorraine, in eastern France, at the beginning of the 20th century.
Very good condition, with only a few light traces of time such as two minor defects on the neck, not affecting its aesthetic.
The decor, a landscape of hills and mountains in the background sprinkled with houses and trees in winter, is very beautiful and fine. Very beautiful and delicate artisanal work.
The Daum brothers are among the famous French art glass masters of the late 19th century and the very early 20th century, in the same ranks as the Schneider family, Emile Gallé, the Muller brothers, all originally from the Nancy region in Lorraine in eastern France.
