Netherlands – 25 ECU 1990 “Geert Groote” – 925 silver – Proof – with original certificate.
Dutch 25-ECU commemorative coin from 1990 in honor of Geert Groote, one of the great Dutch religious reformers of the 14th century and founder of Devotio Moderna.
The coin is struck in 925 silver and was produced in Proof / Polished Plate. The specimen is housed in a coin capsule and is offered together with the original contemporary Certificate of Authenticity. Variant with 925 silver hallmark / silver certification mark.
On the portrait side is Geert Groote with the inscription:
HÆC ARMA STRENUITAS SEVERITAS BENIGNITAS
as well as the names Gerard Zerbolt van Zutphen and Geert Groote.
The other side shows the denomination 25 ECU, the year 1990, and a stylized ship motif with the inscription DE NEDERLANDEN.
The specimen shows the typical Proof contrast between mirror fields and frosted relief. The actual condition is clearly visible in the high-resolution macro photographs. The images are part of the description.
