a Russian icon composed of four registers, bringing together three depictions of the Mother of God and, in the fourth panel, the Virgin in a praying stance.
The clearest identification is the bottom-right panel: it corresponds to the Virgin Mary of the iconography «Умиление» (Umilenie, “Tenderness”), related to the Seraphimo-Diveevskaya iconography. In it the Virgin appears without the Child, with her hands crossed over her chest, an attitude that symbolizes humility and acceptance of the divine will. This is precisely the distinctive feature of the «Umilenie» of Serafín of Sarov.
Top left: The Mother of God enthroned with the Child, with a crown. The inscription corresponds to a Marian title.
Top right: another representation of the Mother of God with the Child, of a different composition.
Bottom left: The Virgin with the Child in a variant of the Eleúsa/Umilenie iconography, with the Child bringing his face close to his Mother.
