Description from the seller

Mesmerizing silvered champagne cooler with with a cut glass insert as a punch bowl by the renowned manufactury of WMF in Germany.

Dsigned by Albert Mayer, who served as the director of the WMF Art Studio (Wurttembergische Metallwarenfabrik).

Albert Mayer was one of WMF's most prolific and renowned designers during the peak of the Jugendstil period (circa 1900-1910).
He is highly famous for introducing fluid organic lines and figural/fruit motifs to WMF's catalog.

The set represents the codes of the Art Nouveau period with the flawless cut glass bowl that set in a larger, artfully designed silvered basket adorned by great looking fruit embossings on the sides and two practical handles for carrying.

The gap between the two bowls can be filled with ice cubes to keep drinks cool and fresh.

An elaborate shaped, removable domed lid keeps the glass bowl closed and has a slot for a ladle.

A very highly decorative Art Nouveau piece hallmarked with the famous WMF Strauss brand and the additionally mark "I/O" for the thickness of the silvering as well the letter "g".

The medallions around are decorated with fruit and leaf motifs using the repoussée technique.

Repoussé is a metalworking technique where shapes are hammered into relief from the reverse side.

The trademark featuring an ostrich inside a rhombus/diamond shape was used by WMF around 1903-1910.
• I/0: This fraction indicates a heavy silver plating thickness (specifically defined as 1 gram of pure silver deposited per 1 square decimeter of the base metal surface).
