Description from the seller
Antique Art Deco vase from Faïencerie de Saint-Ghislain, Belgium, produced between circa 1920 and the early 1930s. On the base with the impressed model number 861.
The vase has a tall rectangular form with a stepped foot and a gently curved upper rim, a characteristic shape that recurs within Saint-Ghislain's Art Deco production.
The decoration consists of abstract, stylized floral motifs, applied with sprayed glazes in soft shades of purple, green, orange and brown on a white ground with craquelure.
This sprayed decoration technique (aerosol) was used during the interwar period in Saint-Ghislain's production.
Over the white glaze is a fine craquelé pattern. This is part of the glaze and does not indicate cracks in the ceramic.
The vase is unsigned. The form and decoration show stylistic similarities to designs from the period when Émile Lombard was active as a designer for Saint-Ghislain.
Dimensions:
Height: 27.25 cm
Width: 11.25 cm
Depth: 6.5 cm
Weight: 696 g
Condition: very good condition for its age. No cracks. On the right side there is a small, flat chip, see photos.
Other than normal age- and use-related wear.
