Box - Kingwood

Rectangular case veneered in rosewood with a chevron fretwork decoration. The lid features geometric marquetry centered by a medallion engraved with scrolling motifs, framed by fillets and an ivory inlay strip. The interior is fully lined with red satin upholstery, both on the base and under the lid. Front lock (no key). Bottom covered with black paper.

Very good overall condition, but note that the wood has warped and the box closes with difficulty. Key absent.

French workmanship from the Napoleonic III era (19th century).
