Ashtray - Marble - Memento Mori ashtray

Heavy Masonic marble ashtray made in the second half of the 20th century. The base is carved from a block of white-gray marble with intense green veining, worked while preserving the irregular, natural outer edge. On one side there is a symbol of the triangle and compass with the letter G; on the opposite side is a small skull carved and polished in green serpentine, a stone also known as green marble.

The composition is particularly evocative: the skull faces the Masonic symbol, creating a visual dialogue between Memento Mori and the principles of Masonry.

Memento Mori invites us to remember the transience of life and the value of time. In the symbolic Masonic tradition, the skull calls for reflection on mortality, self-knowledge, and the need to live with uprightness and awareness. The Square represents moral rectitude, the Compass balance and measure, while the letter G is traditionally associated with Geometry and the Great Architect of the Universe.
