This piece, an oil on canvas with a markedly expressionist and symbolist character, portrays the ascent of a female figure from the abyssal depths toward a surface flooded with light. The painting is defined by a dramatic chromatic contrast: a background of dark blues and purples, evoking the oppression of the abyss with diffuse organic shapes, contrasted with an intense and focused explosion of reds, golds, and oranges in the figure. The woman, with her hair flowing upward and head tilted backward, seems to exhale a stream of luminous bubbles that rise to the surface, creating a visual and textural link that breaks the darkness. The treatment of the skin, with dense impastos that overlie warm brushstrokes and net-pattern textures, suggests a transformation or a burning life energy emanating from her being, in dialogue with the sunlight reflected on the water. The dynamic brushwork and the textural richness emphasize the upward movement and the emotional climax of the scene, which transcends mere representation to evoke a sense of liberation, purification or spiritual birth.
