Low Sideboard – Walnut Burl Finish – Italy, 1930s/40s
Fascinating low sideboard (buffet) in the Art Déco style, dating from the first half of the 20th century. The piece features a solid architectural structure, recently revisited with an opaque coral-orange handmade lacquer, creating a bold contrast with the original flame-figured walnut burl on the central body. An eclectic design piece, ideal for integration into modern, vintage, or industrial interiors.
STRUCTURAL ANALYSIS AND DESIGN:
Configuration: The piece offers a triple division of space. On the sides there are two wide open compartments (without doors), ideal as a library or for displaying art objects. The central section consists of two adjacent drawers at the top and a two-door lower cabinet with an internal shelf.
Finishes: The exterior of the structure has been hand-finished in coral tone. The fronts of the drawers and central doors preserve the splendid original walnut burl veneer, with symmetrical grain arranged in a mirrored pattern that enhances the natural draw of the wood.
Hardware: Original period handles on the drawers and central door, made of bakelite or contemporaneous plastic material in amber/honey color with copper-plated metal supports. The central lock plate is brass.
CONDITION AND DETAILED EXAMINATION (Condition Report):
The piece is structurally solid but shows the visible wear seen in the photos, with evident and widespread signs of age, use, and the natural movement of the solid wood underneath.
