Rare parchment leaf from a liturgical custom book, bearing at the top the old designation « Grand Coutumier ».
The document combines liturgical text with square musical notation on red staves. An instruction in Old French specifies: « Après que répétition d’icelle antienne à Benedictus les chantres disent : », indicating its use to precisely regulate the course of the chant during the office.
Remarkable large historiated illuminated initial, painted in red and blue-green, decorated with vegetal flourishes and containing a fantastical animal of the dragon type.
The leaf shows several later annotations and modifications, notably the note « C’est ajouté la seconde musique », testifying to prolonged use and adaptation of the manuscript.
