Two square wooden frames with mirrors in the antique Directorio style from France, dating to 1850–1900, made of golden wood with fine vegetal reliefs, each 25 cm high and wide and 2 cm deep, in good used condition with minor signs of age.
Description from the seller
Two frames that embody very well the Directoire spirit reinterpreted in the height of the 19th century, when that sober, geometric language with classical inspiration still set the taste of interiors the most elegant. Although today they function as decorative elements with their mirrors in place, the essence of their design continues to speak of proportion, restraint and nobility.
The gilded wood, worked with a fine relief of vegetal motifs and discreet volutes, shows that transition between the austere Neoclassicism of the Directoire and the more ornamental sensibility of the 19th century. It is not an exuberant gilding, but a warm glow, slightly aged, that adds depth and authenticity. The carvings, though present, maintain the formal discipline of the style: symmetry, balance, clear lines that frame the mirror without stealing the spotlight.
The square format, unusual in earlier times, reinforces the sense of architectural order. Each frame seems like a small classical window, with its contained ornamentation and its almost institutional air, as if it belonged to an office, a formal drawing room, or a private cabinet.
The current mirrors, placed as part of the decorative ensemble, bring new life to the pieces. The combination between the frame’s antiquity and the freshness of the glass makes the pair a perfect visual accent: two objects that dialogue with each other and that, together, create an elegant and balanced presence on any wall.
Certified shipping and good packaging.
