Description from the seller
For large three-armed Baccarat candelabra – France, second half of the 19th century
A remarkable pair of imposing, three-armed Baccarat candelabra dating from the second half of the 19th century. Made of high-quality crystal glass and satin glass. The candelabra are unsigned.
The central part of each candelabrum features an elegant feminine caryatid made of satin glass, inspired by classical sculpture of ancient Greece. Slender figures in draped garments form the supports for the richly decorated, three-armed candle-holding sections.
The upper parts are crafted from transparent, molded and faceted crystal glass and are richly adorned with numerous hanging drop-like pendants and decorative crystal elements. They are topped with tall, faceted crystal finials. The broad, fluted bases complete the monumental and elegant form of the candelabra.
The candelabra retain their original elements.
Height of each candelabrum: approx. 62 cm.
Condition: vintage, appropriate for age. The candelabra show signs of use and prior repairs. Local chipping and flaking are present. Two bobèches were repaired with glue in the past; one of them also has a chip. One of the supporting candle elements was also glued. There is a chip on the base of one of the candelabra.
Despite the noted age-related marks and past repairs, the candelabra retain a highly decorative and dignified character. The combination of transparent crystal with matte satin glass, classical caryatid figures, and the abundance of crystal pendants creates a striking and impressive composition.
The candelabra will be carefully dismantled, and each component packed separately and securely. Shipped via insured courier.
