Antique Aubusson-style Chinese rug – 240 × 145 cm
We present a beautiful antique Chinese rug in Aubusson style, made circa 1940 to 1950.
Origin: China
Period: 1940–1950
Measurements: 240 × 145 cm
Material: 100% wool on a cotton foundation
Technique: traditional hand-tufted
Craftsmanship: 100% handmade
The rug is created using an ancient manual tufting technique, in which the wool tufts are worked by hand on a cotton base. On the reverse, the structure is stabilized by a traditional fixing compound that holds the tufts in place, and is finally protected by a textile lining. The pile is worked and cut by hand, creating the beautiful relief characteristic of this type of rug.
It features an elegant floral design inspired by Aubusson, with a delicate color combination and an attractive relief effect.
For its approximate age of 75–85 years, it is in fairly good overall condition.
The protective backing on the reverse shows dirt, stains and wear typical of its years, as clearly seen in the photographs.
