Lot of two bronze 1-cent coins from 1931, struck under Queen Wilhelmina, with variants related to the processing of blanks and with weights of 2.41 g and 2.45 g; not certified.
Description from the seller
Lot of 2 bronze cents from 1931, struck under Queen Wilhelmina.
Variants with respect to the processing of coin planchets. The roundels for this type of coin (including the 1/2 cent and the 2 1/2 cent) were deliberately darkened (blackened) by the Royal Dutch Mint between 1913 and 1930 to prevent confusion with gold coins. (see page 48 of the almanac). At PCGS this term "darkened" is indicated as blackened. What is peculiar here is that these small coins should not actually have been blackened, but this roundel was most likely accidentally placed in the new batch of roundels intended for 1931. We know from 1931 only a few specimens that were struck on a "wrong" blackened coin planchet.
