Folio volume. [First series] In folio; headpiece, [v] preliminary pages (illustrated title page, preface and index), with 48 plates in retinized phototype applied to various supports (white and colored paper), accompanied by printed tissue guards. Hard covers illustrated and printed in color.

The plates are sharp and in excellent condition, except for the five sheets of white backing and the contact tissue, which show foxing from light to moderate, yet without affecting the image.

The illustrated covers are made of fine gray paper, printed and decorated in green, black and gray tones on a drawing by G. Auriol.
The spine shows signs of wear and edge loss, with the front board creased.
