Russian icon of the Crucifixion with saints, organized in four compartments.

Iconographic Identification
Center: Crucifixion of Christ. Christ is depicted nailed to the cross, with the Titulus Crucis inscription at the top.
Top left: Christ Pantocrator, blessing with the right hand and holding the Gospel.
Top right: Saint Nicholas the Wonderworker (Saint Nicholas of Myra), recognizable by his bishop’s appearance and the crosses on his vestment.
Top center: a small representation of Christ, probably related to the composition of the Crucifixion.
Bottom left: a monastic saint appears, before an altar or liturgical table. In appearance he could be a saint from Russian monastic tradition.
Bottom right: another saint, also of monastic appearance, depicted standing.

The composition belongs to the type of polyptych icons or multi-”quartels”, widely used for private devotion. There are numerous nineteenth-century Russian examples with the Crucifixion in the center and Christ Pantocrator, Saint Nicholas, and other saints around.

What I find especially interesting

The background features a very abundant punched/gilded decoration, with geometric motifs, and the frame is decorated with interlaced motifs.
