ANCIENT VIRGIN WITH THE CHILD – POLYCHROMED WOOD SCULPTURE – RELIGIOUS IMAGERY – 50 CM
Old religious sculpture representing the Virgin Mary with the Child Jesus, made of carved and polychromed wood, approximately 50 cm tall.
The Virgin stands, crowned, holding the Child on her left arm and extending her right hand in a welcoming gesture.
The craftsmanship of the carving stands out, especially visible in the faces, hair, and the abundant folds of the garments.
It retains remnants of its former polychromy, showing reddish, green, ochre, and golden tones.
At the bottom it features an attractive composition of carved and polychromed winged cherub heads, atop a polygonal wooden plinth.
The piece preserves a marked patina of antiquity, with wear and losses of polychromy, cracks, fissures, abrasions, small losses and ancient interventions typical of a religious sculpture of this kind.
The right hand shows losses visible in some fingers.
The crown similarly shows wear and small losses in the carving.
